Sheffield Wed v Blackburn Rovers, Sat 16 March 2019, KO 15:00

Discuss all things Rovers related except...

Why can't Sheffield unite on a Wednesday?

It would mean that the weekend is still two days away

They are in good form and will fancy themselves for a late play off push. We are short on defenders and would be surprised if Graham starts. I can only see a defeat....

I feel like they could make a push and shoot for the win, as next week everyone is off. I guess this is a time where Mowbray could use a youngster or two and throw a wrench into those plans.

They’ve been solid under Bruce. It’ll be a no nonsense 4-4-2 with big lads up top and playing it direct. Not sure our cobbled together defence will hold that off for 90 minutes.

Happy to be proven otherwise. We’ll certainly compete and can score goals just worried about what happens at the other end.

I would rejoice with a point today. If we got all three, I’d be over the moon.

This is what our season's coming to. In like lions, out like lambs.

Raya
Bennett-Nyambe-Magloire-Williams
Reed-Evans-Travis
Dack-Graham-Rothwell

Also notable is John Buckley is on the bench from the U-23s. Big game for Rothwell to impress.

So down to 10 men while Graham has to change his boots and we concede. 1-0.

A bit shameful that we are down 1-0 right now. Really picked up pace and possession in the final 25 minutes of the first half. If this continues, it feels like Rovers can at least pick up the draw and get something out of this match.

Bit disappointing to see a 4-2 loss after a good performance from the midfield and attack. It really shows we don't have any depth at centreback. Magloire needs a tall, strong central defender to pair with him in order to succeed. This is a situation where you really question whether or not putting Downing out on loan was a good decision.

I know everyone is clamoring for a left back, but this match and previous matches really tell me we need a big central defender.

On the positive, John Buckley gets his debut off the bench and looked comfortable.

Interesting comment on radio Lancashire after the game. Listening to Kevin Gallagher he talked about Tony Mowbrays recent comments suggesting that none of his central defenders liked heading the ball. The exemption to that was Darragh Lenihan. If true it is ridiculous but if you look at the facts lookng at the players who have played in the middle of defence you can see why. Mulgrew and Rodwell are better suited to midfield. Williams would be best described as a left back. Nyambie right back. Its not fair to include Magloire but it shows how dire Rovers situation is regarding central defending that they have to resort to an unproven U23 player to stop the rot. Downing is out on loan of course and why he has not been recalled shows that maybe Mowbray is hoping Donny Rovers will want to sign him in the summer.
Rovers though are relatively safe from relegation otherwise this issue might put Tony Mowbray at risk of being sacked. If his strategy is bring in two central defenders in the summer then that should go along way to improve Rovers chances of progressing in the championship. Another thing he needs to do is show the door to any defenders who dont like heading the ball. Its like a window cleaner who doesnt like heights.

Just glad Rotherham lost as well. Just need to see the rest of these games out and keep well away from Rotherham.
