Sheffield United v Blackburn Rovers, Sat 29th Dec 2018, KO 15:00

Post by mcteeth » Fri Dec 28, 2018 10:07 am

Another difficult afternoon to complete a difficult month for Rovers. Putting the FA Cup to one side we've got WBA at home after this then the fixture list becomes more favourable.

Expecting a loss so will be pleasantly surprised with anything else. Sheffield United were very good at Ewood and we were well beaten.

Mowbray has said that with games coming thick and fast he will use the squad to best effect.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Rodwell, Nuttall, Rothwell, Downing and Palmer feature at different times between the Sheffield and West Brom matches. The player I'd like to see is Travis. Bennett will probably start tomorrow.
We cannot keep playing well and not win one of these matches. Rovers to win 2-1 tomorrow.

Sheffield United play their system of 3-5-2 where the defenders push very high up the pitch particularly the right and left centre backs of the 3. We couldn't deal with it at all and pretty sure in the second half we brought on Mulgrew and switched to a similar system to match them up. So I won't be surprised if we see something similar to the 3-4-3 or whatever it was at Leeds but with Lenihan, Mulgrew and Williams starting as a central 3. Mowbray is mentioning it as a problem in the LT today.

If I was being cruel, as much as I really like our team, I'm not a huge fan of Williams. I think out of everyone he's the one that has looked the least comfortable this season. I know Bell isn't without his faults but I don't think he benefits from rotation or moving positions, it felt like he settled a bit and was improving, especially going forward, when Williams was out injured.

If Nyambe is out then it'll either be Reed or Bennett at right back or wing back if we're playing a back 3, but if they're not fit guessing it'll need to be Travis. A central 3 I think I'd rather see Downing, Lenihan and Mulgrew instead of Williams on the left side with Bell as the wing back personally. But Mowbray may go with what he was trying at Leeds as bar a silly own goal and a brain fart in injury time we defended relatively well.

Hopefully we're better than last time against them although they just thumped Derby.

Best team I’ve seen by a mile this season. Could be a long afternoon for us. I’d settle for a point right now

All I remember from the last match was our left side couldn't stop a cross. This is going to be rough.

Quite the shakeup of a squad. Brereton gets his first official start up top. Palmer, Rothwell, Travis, and Bennett all make the starting 11. I'm kind of excited to see how this team will perform.

Yes, this is a risky move, but maybe today is Brereton's coming-out party. I hope so

Whew, close that...hits the bar.

ShefU appears to be a very physical side, they are certainly racking up the fouls

I do like our midfield - Reid, Smallwood and Travis- could be the shape of things to come

All things considered in the first half Rovers appeared to play a very good side, on fairly equal terms.

ShefU comes out strong in the 2nd half...

Sheffield down to 10 men, but I can't remember the last time Rovers won against 10.

there was a score, unfortunately Lenihan went to sleep and allowed Sharp to score
