But...apple have never made a commitment to when iPhone 5 is due to come out other than to say that there almost definitely will be one sooner later.

Apple make regular tech announcements at fixed points in the year and it was media speculation that the October release would be iPhone 5 just because the media love to get excited. It turns out that it's an iPhone 4 with a lot of it's design flaws ironed out, but there's no way that it would have been passed off as an iPhone 5 under Jobs - it's still basically the same hardware, and they've never stepped up a generation on any of their products without major innovation in their tech. Siri is just another nice little trick, but nowt of that calibre.

iPhone 5 will be a release that really tries to push the market forward.
So why did they have the iPhone 5 launch event, only to actually launch the iPhone 4S, a previously completely unmentioned product? The iPhone 4S ISN'T basically they same hardware at all; it's all the same spec of bits that were designed to go into the iPhone 5 chassis but caused too much overheating.

The iPhone 4S is nothing more than a release to cover up that the 5 chassis is broken and they have to go back to the drawing board; but they need something out for Christmas, so they've stuff what they have into the current chassis.

They didn't. They had an event called 'Let's talk iPhone' which the media jumped in and labelled the iPhone 5 launch event.

And I think it's quite logical to use some of your next gen tech to fix design flaws in your interim product.

Fine, you be taken in by Apple's spin...

The design flaws aren't in the interim product; they're in the new product. The interim product only exists to try and hide the fact the 5 is still not ready; so they're dumping the technology for it into the previous model. The design of the iPhone 4 is what remains in it - just with the hardware that was intended to go in the new phone (hardly a design flaw, seeing as it didn't exist when the 4 came out....). It's the exact reverse of what you're suggesting - they're covering up for the design flaw of the new product (too thin, not enough ventilation to the higher spec cpu so overheated) by putting that tech into the design which works...

And you're basing all that on what? Do you have a link to your evidence for this, because I'm genuinely interested to see it. I've been loosely following the rumours surrounding it for months, and admittedly I've been a bit distracted recently (Ivy June Lycett-Smith was born on Tuesday morning) but all I remember seeing is a load of the usual rumoured leaks.

SHE SHALL BE VICTORIOUS! :hyper:

Cheers fellas. So far her favourite thing seems to be being swung around to aeroplane sound effects.

Which is also one of my favourite things.

but her middle name is named after the month in 2007 that Igor Tudor's contract with Juve expired and he returned to Hajduk Split?

Or maybe the month in 2004 that he scored his first senior international goal?

Or maybe the month in 2005 that he scored his last senior international goal?
