Team for the Championship next season?

Postby Savory » Sat Apr 14, 2012 5:09 pm

It's a given, we're still even behind bolton who have 2 games on us

where do we start?!

Robinson, Dann (hopefully) Formica, Givet, Hoillet, Yakubu & Simon will all be off.

We may even struggle to keep the likes of Hanley, Olsson, Nzonzi, Rochina & Lowe.

Promote from within our youth set up. For starters i'd like to see:

----------------------Bunn--------------------

Henley------Hanley----NO IDEA----Morris

---------------Lowe-------Dunn-------------

Hugo Fernandez--------------Marcus Olsson

-------------Goodwillie----Rochina-----------

Obviosuly we will go out and buy players (unsure on the quality of these though) and there is a possibility some may stay that i've missed out but there's a team for starters

I think Robinson will go and also Scott Dann (I could not care less about Dann). As already mentioned though, it would be good to see players promoted from the youth system. I honestly think we'd struggle in the Championship for at least the first season. It's a seriously competitive league.

Competitive in terms of a lot of games and the mid-table is close. I don't think it's the Championship that's caught the quality of the PL at all, more along the lines of teams like Villa, Blackburn, Bolton, West Ham etc all became much much worse. I'd still back us for at least a top 10 finish in our first season in the Championship but i guess that depends if Kean is still manager

Why would he play Simon then if he doesn't play him now? It sounds like the problem with Simon has been settling in, i can see him leaving in January

--------------------Bunn--------------------

Orr------Hanley------Dann-----------Ribeiro

---------------Lowe-------Dunn-------------

Simon-----------------------------------Morris

-------------Goodwillie----Blackman-----------

If they get rid of Kean and bring in someone with a bit of sense and know how Alan Curbashley, Roy Keane (wont take shit from players), Mick Macarthy.

Minus Ribeiro, I really like the look of that team! This Championship lark is going to be fun.

I would try and cash in on:

Dann(Been one of the worst players to play for Rovers, up there with Grabbi)
N'Zonzi(I've always rated him but he's been terrible in the last few months and if the £5-8million that's been reported is offered, then I would take it in a flash)
Petrovic(See description of Dann)

Other players that'll probably leave:

Robinson
Hoilett
Simon
Martin Olsson
Pedersen
Yakubu
Formica

With the high earners off the wage bill, and other high earners like Salgado and Grella's contracts ending in the summer, we shouldn't be in a terrible financial situation as a result of relegation(touch wood) and taking into account lower TV revenue, lower ticket sales/gate receipts and lower sponsorship, we should still have a little bit of cash to spend.

Taking into account the players I think'll leave, my team would be:

-----------------Bunn-----------------
Orr-----Hanley-----?????-----Henley
---------------Lowe-------------------
Rochina-----Dunn-----Marcus Olsson
------Goodwillie--Blackman(think Championship might be his level)

Obviously we would need to sign a good CB, ST and a few midfielders but I wouldn't be afraid to promote from the youth like people have said with the likes of Morris, Hugo Fernandez, Ramm, Raheem Hanley etc getting game time. The most important signing though would be a new manager and new owners!

We need rid of Dann and a new CB. As for Orr, he's a typical Championship right back, i'd rather Henley promoted and Ribeiro is just plain shit. Blackman too is nothing special. It's a hit and miss team there

Wouldn't mind Mick McCarthy on a short term deal to see if he could get us up. He seems good at getting teams promoted.

Yeh i fully agree with all of this Cyrus. Not too sure about Orr and Blackman though. I don't rate either at all

He'd be good for us in the Championship, he ain't what we need long time though.

I wouldn't mind Lee Clarke (ex Huddersfield boss) though
