I don't like cricket.........

Postby CoolSpot » Tue Jan 10, 2012 7:49 pm

...........I love it :P

Actually this (last) sporting year has been a bit strange - as a cricket fan it was brilliant to see Lancashire finally win the title for the first time since 1066. But I didn't get so long to enjoy that, as the footy season started (and has continued) with us being pants.

So anyway, I'm waiting for the cricket season to bring some potential sporting joy back into my life - as I have a terrible feeling that Rovers aren't going to improve that much and also that England will be shite (as per usual at the Euros).

Any other cricket fans out there? I must admit I didn't spot many Rovers tops whilst out and about last cricket season (I did see a few Burnley one's though - or maybe they were West Ham?).

Yep,I'm a huge cricket fan as well. Last year was the best I can remember in a while with England winning the Ashes at the beginning of the year and Lancs winning the County Championship near the end. We also have another Cricket threat here.

I watched about an hour of Fire in Babylon over Christmas, extremely disappointing. I was expecting a story about a cricket team with reference to the cricket matches they played. Instead you got some brief quotes from former players, too much interjections from randoms, and the odd highlight shown without any real context. Maybe it's because I'm too much of a cricket fan, but I wanted to be reminded of just how great Viv Richards was, and how scary their bowling attack was, and just how Tests played out. Instead it was a sports film that wanted to concentrate on anything but the sport...

Back to the current day, rescue act by Prior and Jimmy Anderson on the cards?

I think there are probably hundreds of films that focus on the cricket (although I've never looked for them).

I thought we were done today so I stopped checking.... and just as I check back Anderson out... :(

It's a great film - but it's not a sport film. It's a social commentary which uses the the cricket team as a device to follow the changes in perception of people from the region. If you watch it expecting it to be a series of biographies you'll certainly be disappointed.

Over this side, the Aussies are pummelling the Indian team (last test was won just after lunch on the third day), leading to predictable headlines about how, once again, they are the greatest team in the world. Conveniently forgetting that they drew the last series with NZ with most of the same team, and that England also stuffed the Indian cricket team recently. That being said, over-reactions aside, the Aussie bowling line-up is looking a lot stronger, with Pattinson and Cummins in particular looking extremely promising prospects.

Can't wait for the Ashes in 2013!

Warner is extremely strong and aggressive, and has great reflexes. Has a few technical issues which I think a good bowler would be able to exploit (not so good vs short ball etc.). Think the jury is still out on Cowan.
